Africa
Africa, the second largest continent in the world, is a land of contrasts deserts, dense tropical rain forests, coastal plains, mountain ranges, large lakes and rivers. It is home to some 689 million people from 53 nations and some 600 ethnic or tribal groups. About half of the population of Africa is young, aged below 15 years. A large part of the continent has been ravaged by wars, famine, droughts and all sorts of conflicts, which have displaced millions of people from their homes. As a result an increasing number of people are migrating to towns and cities because of poverty and lack of jobs in rural areas.
Many countries in Africa are experiencing economic problems that are mainly due to an imbalance between what they earn from their products and the amount they spend on imports. These factors, along with the growing population and the effects of drought, war and poor management of their economies mean that many of these economies are in difficulty. This is despite the fact that the continent is endowed with diverse natural resources including as minerals, oil, gas, gold and rich farm lands. Consequently, there is the need to help provide a good future for the children of this great continent. This is what BAFA is doing. Education is one of the most important ways of creating a better world in Africa. Good education will enable Africans to improve their quality of life. By supporting the vision of BAFA you are helping to put smiles on the faces of Africa's children.
